Expert Bio

Vanessa Rubio Márquez had a 25-year-long career in Mexico’s public service, including serving as Senator and three times Deputy Minister (Finance -the first woman in history at the job; Social Development; and Foreign Affairs). She held every position in the public sector ladder, and has represented Mexico in various international fora including the UN, the IMF, the WB, the OECD, the G-20, and a wide variety of regional development banks. Vanessa was involved in bilateral and multilateral negotiations including the USMCA and the Pacific Alliance. She is currently a Professor in Practice and Associate Dean of the School of Public Policy of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), business advisor, and independent board member. Vanessa is also a member of the Atlantic Council Freedom and Prosperity Center’s Advisory Council and the LSE’s Marshall Institute’s Management Committee. She is an Associate Fellow at Chatham House (US and Americas Programme), and a member of the International Women’s Forum, Women Corporate Directors, Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE), and the Mexican Council on Foreign Relations (Comexi). Vanessa is also an author, and a regular contributor in international and Mexican newspapers and journals
