Expert Bio

Jaret Waters graduated from The Ohio State University in 2021 with a B.A. in Spanish, with minors in Portuguese and Geography, and a B.S.B.A. in Economics. His research focused on the socio-spatial construction of domestic work in Brazil and migratory dynamics along the Brazil-Venezuela corridor. During his time in Columbus, Jaret worked as a Community Connector student mentor with Community Refugee and Immigration Services.

Before arriving at the Brazil Institute, Jaret interned at the Migration Policy Institute, providing research support for the institute’s Latin America Initiative. Prior to that, Jaret completed a Virtual Student Federal Service internship at the U.S. Embassy in Brasília, working on research for the Environment, Science, Technology and Health team. Jaret also interned previously with the Latin America Working Group.

Currently, Jaret is part of a research group in the Human Rights Laboratory at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
