Expert Bio

Dr Fabian Burkhardt is a research fellow at the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies in Regensburg, Germany. In 2018, he received his PhD in political science from University of Bremen for a dissertation on the Russian presidency. He previously held research positions at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich) and was a postdoctoral fellow at the International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development at the National Research University Higher School of Economics in Moscow, and the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin. He is the co-editor of the online journal Russland-Analysen and editorial board member of RIDDLE Russia. His research focuses on presidential and executive politics in authoritarian regimes with a regional focus on the post-Soviet space, in particular Russia and Belarus.
