Deborah Carey is an International Trade Specialist at the U.S. Department of Commerce and a former Program Assistant (Director’s Office) with the Wilson Center Africa Program. Previously, she served as a consultant at Creative Associates International, an intern with Yawezekana Savings and Credit Cooperative in Nairobi, Kenya, an IT Training Intern at Peace Corps, and as a Communications Intern with ZAYEDESA in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Deborah is also a NSEP Boren Scholar, where she became proficient in Swahili through a year of intensive study in Arusha, Tanzania and Nairobi, Kenya. She obtained a Masters in International Economic Relations at American University, where she also received a B.A. in International Studies. Deborah is particularly interested in intraregional trade relations and private-sector development.
