Carly Rodgers was a Staff Intern at the Brazil Institute at the Wilson Center from February 2018 to June 2018. She is a graduate from the Brazil Institute at King’s College London, receiving an M.Sc. in the “Brazil in Global Perspective” program. Her dissertation, “The NGOization of Pro-Black Mobilization in Rio de Janeiro: An Investigation of Agency Between Local Pro-Black Activists and Anistia Internacional Brasil,” investigated the forces that motivate pro-Black social activists in Rio to align themselves with international NGOs, and the concessions and compromises incumbent in such collaborations. Carly has visited and lived in Brazil several times since 2011 and her areas of interest focus on critical race and decolonial studies, pro-Black and anti-racist activism, and urban Brazil. She also holds a B.A. (Honours) from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, majoring in Global Development Studies with a minor in Spanish and Latin American Studies. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Latin American Studies at the University of Cambridge.
