Expert Bio

Dr. Anton Burkov, LLM (Essex), PhD (Cambridge), Director and Principal attorney of Strategic Litigation Center (www.strategiclitigation.center), Galina Starovoitova Fellow at Kennan Institute (2014). In cooperation with his colleagues and volunteers, he has been litigating cases in Russian courts, including the Russian Supreme and Constitutional courts, and the European Court of Human Rights. He is involved in the following most recent cases: Burkov v. Google (IT and privacy), Mikhaylova v. Russia (free legal aid), Sablina and Others v. Russia (secret organ harvesting), Korolevs v. Russia (rights of prisoners and their families' members to conjugal meetings and artificial insemination). He has authored numerous publications, including the most recent "The Use of European Human Rights Law in Russian Courts" in Lauri Mälksoo and Wolfgang Benedek (eds.) “Russia and the European Court of Human Rights. The Strasbourg Effect”, (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2018).
