Expert Bio

Andrés Rius is an associate professor and Coordinator for Economic Development Studies at El Instituto de Economía (IECON), part of the Economic Sciences and Administration Department at Universidad de la República in Montevideo, Uruguay. Ruis has held several academic teaching and research positions, including posts at the International Development Research Centre from 1997 to 2010. In 2009, he was inducted into Uruguay’s Sistema Nacional de Investigadores as a Level I researcher on economics and business. His many publications include the forthcoming “Localización, redes de comercialización y competitividad: el caso de la apicultura en Uruguay” (with Sebastián Fleitas), in Christian Felzensztein, ed., Innovación Regional, Marketing y Entrepreneurship en Clusters de Recursos Naturales: Lecciones para Chile y Latinoamérica (Santiago: Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez). Rius holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, as well as an undergraduate degree in Economics from Universidad de la República, Montevideo, Uruguay.
