Expert Bio

Alejandro García Magos is Lecturer of Political Science at the University of Toronto where he obtained his PhD. He received an MA in Political Science from the University of Calgary, and a BA in Economics from the Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City. His research interests are in democracy and authoritarianism, with a regional focus on the Spanish-speaking world. His works in this area have appeared in the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Latin American History, and the Latin American Research Centre at the University of Calgary. His doctoral dissertation examines the relationship between democracy and economic development with a mixed-methods approach that combines quantitative and qualitative research design, data collection, and analytic strategies. He has extensive experience teaching quantitative reasoning to undergraduate students with varied academic interests. He contributes his opinions regularly to Global Brief Magazine, where he is Senior Editor.
