2025 Spring Internship with the Korea Center

The Korea Center at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars seeks a staff intern for a paid fall internship (up to 12 weeks). Applicants with an interest in, coursework related to, and experience working on issues related to US Indo-Pacific foreign policy, North or South Korean domestic/foreign politics, nuclear nonproliferation, and general East Asian studies are encouraged to apply by the August 12, 2024 deadline.

Internship Description

The 2024 Fall Internship provides an opportunity for practical experience in an environment that bridges academic study with public policy. The staff intern will gain valuable experience in conference organization, policy research methods, preparation of publications, social media management, and administrative assignments in support of Program activities. Opportunities to foster independent research will also be offered; the intern will be encouraged to draft an individual blogpost on a topic relevant to their field for potential publication on the Korea Center website or the Asia Program’s Asia Dispatches.

The 2024 Fall Internship will be conducted in a hybrid work status, including both telework and onsite tasks to assist with in-person events in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist with programmatic and administrative tasks
  • Assist with virtual and on-site conferences and workshops, including prepping the event spaces and designing event materials for distribution
  • Support onsite Event Lead in coordinating vendor setup (catering, translation services, etc.)
  • Prepare social media campaigns for event advertisement, tracking public outreach before, during, and after events
  • Research and monitor political and economic developments in the Indo-Pacific and US relations with countries in the region
  • Draft region-relevant foreign policy summaries as requested

Eligibility Requirements

The Wilson Center is NOT able to sponsor visas for interns. International students, holding hold a valid F-1 or J-1 visa and appropriate work authorization, are eligible to apply. Payment of stipend is conditional upon approval from visa sponsor institutions, however students may work for college credit in lieu of the stipend. All international students must obtain written permission from their Designated School Official or Responsible Visa Officer at their university stating that they are in valid immigration status and eligible to participate in an internship at the Wilson Center.

South Korean nationals seeking to intern at the Korea Center are encouraged to apply to internships with Cultural Vistas, the Korea Foundation, or another program that assists with J-1 visas.

Hours/Payment

This internship is a paid, part-time position (up to 25 hours/week) for 12 weeks. A modest salary of $17.80/hr. (GS 3, step 2) will be provided to the selected applicant for the duration of the 12-week internship.
