extended scholarly examination of the role of ideology in Russian politics since the collapse of communism the degree to which the major Russian political parties have generated clear ideologies on issues such as the proper boundaries of the Russian state, what it means to be a Russian citizen, and the nature of Russian relations with the West analysis of the 1995 parliamentary and 1996 presidential elections
