Scott Houston is an elected member of the Board of Directors of the West Basin Municipal Water District (West Basin) where he currently serves as President. He is Chair of West Basin’s Public Information and Education Committee and Member of its Engineering and Operations Committee.
A Special District, West Basin is a wholesale water agency that serves nearly one million people in 17 cities and unincorporated areas in Los Angeles County. The District provides imported drinking water, recycled water, and conservation and education programs to its service area, and is particularly known for its history of innovation and industry leadership in recycled water.
Active in the regional community, Director Houston also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Southern California Water Coalition (SCWC), and as a Commissioner on the County of Los Angeles Economic Development Advisory Committee.
As a policymaker, Director Houston has spoken at a number of conferences, both international and domestic, about the challenges facing global water supplies and security in the midst of climate change. He also has authored two published articles about the lessons learned from California’s historic five-year drought, our evolving relationship with water, and the need to diversify our global water supply portfolios in order to meet future demands and ensure resiliency.
Director Houston’s professional background includes nearly 20 years of management experience in communications, manufacturing, and technology public relations. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Michigan Technological University and studied broadcast journalism at UCLA.
