Expert Bio

Rodrigo Uprimny Yepes is senior researcher of the Center of Studies on Law, Justice and Development “Dejusticia”, and professor at the Department of Law at the Universidad Nacional, in Bogotá. He is also a columnist at El Espectador, one of Colombia’s most important newspapers. He is member of the International Commission of Jurists, as well as a member of the Committee on Economic Social and Cultural Rights of the United Nations, and he has been visiting scholar at the American University (Washington, USA), the University of Grenoble (France) and Utrecht University (Netherlands). He has served as deputy justice of Colombian Constitutional Court. Rodrigo has received several recognitions and awards, such as “Premio Nacional de Periodismo Simón Bolivar” or “Catedrático Emérito” of the National University. He is the author of numerous books and articles on human rights, constitutional law, tensions between law and economics, social rights, the judicial system and transitional justice. He holds a Ph. D. in Political Economy from the University of Amiens Picardie, DSU (Master’s Degree) in Sociology of Law from the University of Paris II, and DEA (Master’s Degree) in Economy of Development from the University of Paris I (IEDES).
