Expert Bio
Minister Nelson Azevedo Jobim is the incoming Co-Chair of the Brazil Institute Advisor Council. He is currently a partner of BTG Pactual and Chairman of its Board of Directors.
Mr. Jobim served as member and President of Brazil’s Federal Supreme Court from 1997 to 2006, Minister of Justice, Minister of Defense, President of the National Council of Justice and President of the Electoral Superior Court of Brazil. While a federal deputy from 1987-1995, he was a leading member of the National Constituent Assembly and played a key role in drafting the Constitution of 1988.
Mr. Jobim practiced as lawyer from 1969 to 1994; from 2006 to 2007; and from 2011 until 2016; and also taught constitutional law at the Federal University of Santa Maria. He received his bachelor in law and social sciences from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in 1968.
