Expert Bio

Dr. Gerald “Stinger” Guala is a Program Scientist on long term detail from USGS in the Earth Science Division at NASA. He wears several hats in the Earth Science Data Systems Program including oversight of the Multi-Mission Algorithm and Analysis Platform (MAAP) which is a cloud based joint project between the European Space Agency (ESA) and NASA. The MAAP is being built as a model for Open Science collaboration with a focus on the analysis of above-ground biomass at global scales.  He is also the Earth Science POC for Citizen Science and coordinates the Citizen Science for Earth Systems Program which sponsors numerous citizen science projects that leverage, enhance or expand NASA Earth Science observation systems. Throughout his career he has held numerous leadership positions primarily associated with big data and biodiversity.
