Expert Bio

Edgardo Maya Villazón is Comptroller General of Colombia. From 2001-2009 he served as Inspector General, becoming the first Attorney General to be re-elected. He served as magistrate of the Disciplinary Chamber; as president of the Judiciary Council; and as auxiliary magistrate of the Labor Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice. Before working for the national government, he was Auxiliary Comptroller of the Department of Cesar and director of the Institute of Social Securities. He has taught labor and collective law at the Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano and the Universidad Externado, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He holds a law degree from the Universidad Externado de Colombia and pursued additional studies in labor law, social security, logic, social sciences, and political and constitutional law at the Universidad de Salamanca.
