Wilson Center Distinguished Scholar Wolfgang Ischinger – Chairman of the Munich Security Conference, and former German Ambassador to the United States – appeared on the Charlie Rose Show on June 25 to discuss the ongoing tensions in Ukraine. When asked about his view of the situation on the ground, Ambassador Ischinger noted that: “we have at least a glimmer of hope that a diplomatic track can be established and that some traction can then be created.” He also commented on Germany’s “central role” throughout this crisis and remarked that Chancellor Merkel has “carried out the kind of leadership function that everybody is now expecting of Germany in these types of situations.
